The concert commemorates the events of 10 February 1920, when General Józef Haller performed the ceremony of Poland’s wedding to the sea in Puck. This was a symbolic moment when Poland regained access to the Baltic Sea after 123 years of partitions. General Haller rode on horseback into the sea and threw one of two rings, given to him by Poles from the Free City of Gdańsk, into the water. On the seashore, a pillar with a Polish eagle from the times of the Jagiellonian royal dynasty was placed and consecrated to commemorate the event; its inscription reads: “In the Year of the Lord 1920, on 10 February, the Polish Army with General Józef Haller took control of the Polish sea forever.

The concert is produced in partnership with the National Centre for Culture and the Museum of the Second World War.
